Affordable housing higher
priority than open space
The development of Ramirez Farm has become an hot issue. The arbitrary target of 3 acres per 1,000 residents is being interpreted as we are short of 77 acres of parkland and need to preserve the Ramirez Farm.
Union City has adequate parks and open areas accomplished by ballot measures in the 1990s. If you drive around the parks on any day, you don’t notice any one of them crowded. Quarry Lakes in Fremont is a huge open space and is adjacent to the Ramirez Farm. It is great as it is and no need for the addition of the Ramirez Farm.
Prices over $1 million is very common in Union City for houses. Gentrification could drive many out of the Decoto area. All that we need is more affordable housing and not additional parkland and open space in Union City.
