SAN JOSE — Authorities are searching for a driver who hit and killed a 77-year-old woman in South San Jose on Thursday night.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Uma Vishwabhan, of San Jose.

Vishwabhan was walking across Vistapark Drive, near Copperfield Drive, about 7:30 p.m. when she was struck by a dark blue minivan or SUV traveling south, said San Jose police Sgt. Enrique Garcia.

The driver did not stop, Garcia said.

Vishwabhan was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later, Garcia said.

Police have not identified or arrested a suspect in the case.

Vishwabhan’s death marked the city’s 35th traffic fatality of the year. San Jose had recorded 33 traffic deaths at the same point in 2017.
