OAKLAND — A shooting late Saturday night at an East Oakland party left a 22-year-old San Leandro man dead, police said Sunday.

The man’s name was not released.

The shooting  happened about 11:55 p.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of 22nd Avenue where a party was being held at a home on the block, police said. Police said the victim was outside the home with some other people when someone began shooting at them.

The San Leandro man was the only one hit by the gunfire, police said.  He died at the scene. The shooter fled before police arrived.

Police don’t have a motive for the shooting and are trying to determine if the man killed was the intended target. No arrests have been made.

Authorities also said that a 26-year-old man shot Thursday night in another area of East Oakland died shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday at a hospital. His name has not been released.

The man was found shot about 6 p.m. Thursday in the 10600 block of Russet Street, south of San Leandro Street near the BART tracks. Police have not released a motive in the shooting and have not made any arrests.

With the two deaths, Oakland now has had eight homicides this year. Last year at this time there were four homicides in the city.
