WATSONVILLE — A single-engine plane with two people on board crashed Saturday morning while landing at Monterey Bay Academy Airport, authorities said.

According to KION 5/46, two people were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital by helicopter. Their condition was unknown.

The Bellanca Citabria aircraft crashed “under unknown circumstances” at about 10:40 a.m. Saturday, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.

The plane with a tail number N11666 is registered in Aptos to an Eva Twardokens, a former Olympic skier, according to the FAA.

The FAA and the National Transportation Services Board will investigate the crash, Gregor said.

The airport is located in Watsonville on Beach Drive.
