SAN JOSE — A 78-year-old man died after being hit by a pickup in South San Jose on Monday morning, police said.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified the man as Tuyen Vu.
The collision occurred about 9 a.m. when a 2014 Ford turned left from southbound Montecito Vista Way onto eastbound Montecito Vista Drive and hit a man crossing the street, according to San Jose police Sgt. Enrique Garcia.
Vu was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.
The driver, described only as an adult male, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, according to Garcia. Neither drugs nor alcohol appears to have played a role in the collision.
Montecito Vista is in a neighborhood of recently built condos and apartments off Monterey Road south of Oak Hill cemetery.
Garcia said the death marks the city’s eighth pedestrian fatality of the year. A total of 10 people have been killed in traffic collisions in 2019, four less than at this point last year.
Anyone with information about the collision can call Detective Troy Sirmons at 408-277-4654.
