OAKLAND — The county coroner has identified two 18-year-old men who were killed in what police are investigating as a shootout that transpired after a gun purchase, court records show.

Jarvis Jackson, of San Francisco, and Luka Sanchez, of San Leandro, were shot and killed a little before 1 p.m. on April 19, in a shooting near 99th Avenue and 99th Avenue Court in East Oakland. Jackson was found dead at the scene of the shooting, and Sanchez died after being dropped off at a hospital by a 19-year-old who witnessed the double homicide, authorities said.

The 19-year-old was later arrested when police in San Leandro caught him allegedly throwing two pistols into a bush on the 1200 block of 136th Avenue.

He reportedly told investigators that Jackson was supposed to buy a gun from them but instead pulled out his firearm and shot them during the purchase. He said Sanchez returned fire and both young men were struck by gunfire, but denied taking part in the shooting himself, authorities said.

No charges have been filed against the 19-year-old as of Thursday, according to a search of the Alameda County’s court system.
