OAKLEY — A two-alarm fire Friday night destroyed an Oakley home, authorities said.

Two residents were initially thought to be trapped inside the home, on the 3900 block of Mellowood Drive, after the fire broke out just before 8:30 p.m. Friday. But crews later found all of the home’s residents were safe outside.

Fire crews reported seeing heavy smoke and flames coming from the house when they arrived, according to the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District.

One firefighter suffered an ankle injury as crews put out the blaze within an hour.

The fire ran through the length of the house’s attic, leaving the home and its contents a total loss, according to fire officials.

Authorities said Saturday that they believe the blaze started as an electrical fire.
