Moscow, New Delhi in active talks to resume regular air travel, says envoy to Moscow

He recalled that only charter flights are carried out once every fortnight between Russia and India, which are in very high demand

MOSCOW, January 26. /TASS/. Russia and India are cooperating closely to resume regular air travel between the two countries, Indian Ambassador to Russia Venkatesh Varma said in an interview with TASS.

"We would like to welcome back Russian tourists once the pandemic situation has been normalized. That is not so for the time being. Aeroflot is already in touch with our civil aviation authorities to resume flights at least twice a week to India. We welcome these developments. As soon as the agreement is concluded, I am sure the flights will take place," the diplomat pointed out.

He recalled that only charter flights are carried out once every fortnight between Russia and India, which are in very high demand. "We would like, as soon as possible, regular flights also to resume but that will depend on the decision taken by the civil aviation authorities of both countries keeping in mind the Covid pandemic situation," Varma added.

The Russian anti-coronavirus crisis center decided to resume international air travel on the mutual basis with certain countries starting with January 27. Flights will be carried out to Vietnam (Moscow-Hanoi), India (Moscow-Delhi) and Finland (Moscow-Helsinki, St. Petersburg-Helsinki) twice a week as well as Qatar (Moscow-Doha) three times a week.
