Here is what you need to know as the 49ers open their 19th training camp at their Santa Clara practice facility:
WHERE: SAP Performance Facility, Santa Clara
WHO: All 90 players are to report Tuesday
TICKETS: Sold out for all 12 open practices at the SAP Performance Facility, starting with Wednesday’s initial session. Tickets are still available for the Aug. 7 practice inside Levi’s Stadium on Dwight Clark Day ($10 fee goes toward the 49ers Foundation).
JOINT PRACTICES: The 49ers will practice against the Los Angeles Chargers on Aug. 19 and 20 at the Chargers’ Costa Mesa facility, ahead of their Aug. 22 exhibition at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. Those practices are expected to be closed to the public. The 49ers held joint practices with the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans in past camps under coach Kyle Shanahan.
COVID SAFETY: It’s believed all 49ers coaches have had the COVID-19 vaccine. The team has yet to announce how many players are inoculated. Players who are not fully vaccinated face daily testing, mask requirements, quarantine upon high-risk contacts, inability to eat with teammates or gather outside club facilities, as well as travel and weight room restrictions.
EXHIBITIONS: Aug. 14 vs. Kansas City Chiefs, 5:30 p.m.; Aug. 22 at Los Angeles Chargers, 4:30 p.m.; Aug. 29 vs. Raiders, 1 p.m.
REGULAR SEASON OPENER: Sept. 12 at Detroit Lions, 10 a.m. PT.
DAYS OFF: Aug. 1, 5, 9, 13.
WEATHER FORECAST: Temperatures during practice (10 a.m. to noon) should range from the low 80s to high 60s with a light bay breeze. Air quality will be worth monitoring yet again because of forest fires, though it was good Monday with a 50 air-quality index.
DEPTH CHART: Here is how their offense and defense looks.
HEALTH CENTER: The 49ers had three players get injured in offseason program, and many other health concerns remain for a team that used 84 players amid last season’s carnage. Defensive ends Nick Bosa (knee) and Dee Ford (back) are atop the list of injuries to watch.
TOP COMPETITIONS: All eyes will be on rookie Trey Lance and incumbent starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, but other key battles await among the linemen, defensive backs and wide receivers.
BILL WALSH NFL COACHING FELLOWS: Tully Banta-Cain (defensive line), Orlando Franklin (offensive line), Ahmed Saleh (defensive backs; cousin of ex-DC Robert Saleh). Banta-Cain played with the Patriots and 49ers, and now is St. Monica High’s defensive coordinator. Franklin played 90 games with the Denver Broncos and is a radio host in Denver. Saleh has coached at his alma mater, Michigan State, as well as Pittsburgh, Colorado State and now is at Madonna University.
PAST CAMP SITES: Menlo College (1946-54), St. Mary’s College (1955-67), San Jose State (1976-78), University of Santa Clara (1979-80), Sierra College-Rocklin (1981-97), University of the Pacific (1998-2002).
