World Lacrosse Men’s under-21 Championship: Hong Kong and China make winning starts in Ireland

Hong Kong and China both made winning starts to the 2022 World Lacrosse Men’s under-21 Championship in Ireland on Thursday.
Tsang Hing-yui led the way with four goals and two assists, as a 7-0 run in the second and third quarters helped Hong Kong to a 11-4 win over South Korea in Pool E.
Carter Li added three goals and an assist, while Tong Ka-chun set the tone for the performance, winning nine of his 11 face-offs.
In other game in Pool E, the Netherlands came out ahead in the closest game of the tournament so far, with a 10-9 win over Sweden. Marc Smorenburg finally decided things with 22 seconds to play in a game that featured six lead changes, with the final goal coming after Sweden erased a two-goal deficit in the fourth quarter.
Earlier, in their Pool D clash, China blasted past Chinese Taipei, with outstanding performances from Keegan Hughes and Dylan Hsu setting the platform for a thumping 10-1 win.
Hughes scored five goals, while Hsu racked up six points with three goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Haoxuan Cui saved seven of the eight shots he faced and midfielder Matthew Wang won 10 face-offs.
The two sides are back in action on Friday, with Hong Kong taking on Uganda at 11am (6pm HKT) and China facing Poland two hours later.
Elsewhere, the United States followed up their opening win over Canada with a 17-3 hammering of England to take the top spot in Pool A. Graham Bundy, Jnr bagged six goals and an assist for the second-highest single-game point total in Limerick.
Jamaica, meanwhile, started the day with the first shutout of the tournament in a 14-0 win over Latvia, who managed just three shots on goal.
