KARACHI: A young man was found shot dead in the Manghopir area on Friday morning, police said.

Area SHO Sarfaraz Awan said that the bullet-riddled body of Waqas Niazi, 31, was found in the bordering area between Moachko and Manghopir police stations.

Quoting his relatives, the officer said that the victim left his residence in his car in Baldia Town at around 10:10pm by telling his nephew that he had some problem with a man who was calling him. However, he did not return. A police patrol had received the information about a body at about 1:00am on Friday.

The SHO said that the victim’s cell phone and the car were missing. However, his purse containing over Rs17,000 was found from his pocket. The victim was not wearing any shoe.

He said that it appeared that he was murdered somewhere else and killer dumped the body later at the desolated place.

The police were investigating whether the murder was related to a robbery or something else.

Suspect shot dead in ‘encounter’

A suspected car-lifter was shot dead in an alleged encounter off Superhighway on Friday evening.

The SITE-Superhighway Industrial Area police said that the encounter between Anti-Vehicles Lifting Cell of the police and some suspects took place at Allah Bux Goth in Ahsanabad.

After an exchange of gunfire, “one known car-lifter” was killed while a stolen four-wheeler was recovered from his custody, the police said.
