An Abbotsford teen spat on police officers during a traffic stop late Monday night, police allege.

According to the Abbotsford Police Department spokesperson, Sgt. Paul Walker, at around 11:15 p.m. on March 20, patrol officers spotted a black Honda CRV travelling over the speed limit along South Fraser Way at Clearbrook Road.

Walker said that over the following few minutes, the vehicle failed to stop at a controlled intersection, tailgated another vehicle, passed another vehicle over a double solid line and reached a speed of 105 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

“Upon conducting a traffic stop and as enforcement action was being taken, the driver of the offending vehicle failed to comply with police directions to identify himself when asked for his driver’s licence,” Walker said.

“Police cautioned this driver that failing to comply with this lawful police direction would result in him being arrested for obstruction. After several further attempts to have this driver comply voluntarily, the driver continued to refuse and spat in the face of the two arresting officers.”

Sukhmann Sidhu, 18, has been charged with assaulting a police officer and issued violation tickets for speeding and other motor vehicle offences.
