Boys sport Athlete of the Week: Dylan Sander, C. Milton Wright, basketball
The junior center, who averages 21 points and 12 rebounds per game this season, delivered three double-doubles in as many nights, leading the No. 6 Mustangs (13-2) to three road wins in Harford County play. In Tuesday’s 50-39 win over Edgewood, Sanders finished with 23 points, 17 rebounds and six blocked shots. In Wednesday’s showdown at Patterson Mill, a dominating 63-38 win, he contributed 28 points, 19 rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots. He closed the week with a 20-point, 13-rebound effort in a 75-57 win over Fallston.
Girls sport Athlete of the Week: Cailyn Stine, Century, track and field
Returning from an extended injury, the standout junior enjoyed a sensational performance to lead the Knights to the Carroll County indoor track and field championship Jan. 27 at Hagerstown Community College. Stine won the 300- and 500-meter races and was instrumental in first-place 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams. Century claimed its fifth straight county championship, besting second-place finisher Manchester Valley by a 148-109 margin.
