A party bus struck a highway guardrail around 6 a.m. Sunday in Harford County, killing one person and sending 23 to hospitals, according to emergency services.
Northbound lanes of Interstate 95 were reopened soon after 11 a.m. Sunday after being closed at mile marker 77 as Maryland State Police probed the crash scene. A bus emblazoned with the name “Just Becuz Entertainment Party Bus Service,” a Philadelphia company, was pulled over to the shoulder.
A preliminary investigation found the driver of the bus, which was carrying 24 people, had lost control “for unknown reasons” and struck the guardrail south of exit 80 onto Riverside Parkway in Belcamp, state police said in a news release.
One passenger, who was not identified, died at the scene, state police said at about 9 a.m. State police said that “multiple other passengers” were hospitalized but would not confirm a number or the severity of the injuries. The Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company said on social media that a total of 23 patients were taken to hospitals in Baltimore, Bel Air and Aberdeen, with “several in serious condition.”
A commercial paramedic ambulance and an off-duty D.C. Fire And EMS paramedic were the first on scene, according to the Abingdon Fire Company.
No charges have been filed, state police said.
